An abandoned holiday resort in San Zhi, a small town on the north coast of Taiwan, consisting of bizarre podular buildings.

The Abandoned Pod City of San Zhi

The site was commissioned by the Taiwanese government and several local firms. It was an attempt at a luxurious vacation resort for those travelling from Taipei. It was even going to include an amusement park. The project was abandoned with out ever being completed. The architect is unnamed.

Oh it’s such a shame they never finished! I love 70s-style futurism, and Pod city looks like one of the best examples I ever seen (I especially like the choice of pastel colors:)).

I would have loved to see these in a finished state! Wish some one would take some photos of the inside lay-out like rooms and kitchen . Bet the bathrooms cool

erm.. they were unfinished as the people who once lived there died of no natural cause and so the site was abandoned. its said that every single apartment has its own story to tell..

Wow! I randomly came across this picture! I lived in Taipei in 2004-2005. I visited these pods and photographed these while I was there. How I understand the story goes as too why they not in use is because on opening day the entrance is guarded by a dragon. The dragon in Chinese culture is viewed as a the strongest animal. So as the story goes on opening day there were lots of people that came to see this spot. The Dragon at the gates comes crashing down. Because the dragon as seem as the strongest animal and it crashed to the ground this was seen as bad luck. The people felt the place was cursed with bad luck and the place didn’t succeed…..
